Wini was born October 12, 1930, in Carroll to Joseph Baumhover and Nellie (Timmerman) Baumhover. She was the second oldest of eleven children and was raised on a farm a mile east of Mount Carmel. She attended Our Lady of Mount Carmel School and graduated from St. Angela’s Academy where she was a diligent student and enjoyed playing cello.
Wini worked on the family farm both outside and inside helping to raise her eight younger brothers and sisters. She lovingly recalled packing eight school lunches every day for her siblings and driving the tractor for her dad once she was old enough.
At the age of seventeen after her senior year in high school, she joined the Franciscan Sisters of Perpetual Adoration in La Crosse, Wisconsin. During this time, she taught elementary school, earned a college degree, and became a registered dietician. She worked with the sisters in hospitals in places including Cincinnati and Idaho Falls, Idaho. After seventeen years as a nun, she made the difficult decision to leave the convent and bravely started her second life in Aurora, Colorado.
She met her husband Raymond during this time, and they married in 1966 and had three children, Eric, Michael, and Jonell. She continued her work as a dietician working in hospitals, nursing homes, and assisted living facilities. After retirement, Wini and Ray moved back to Carroll to be closer to family.
Wini is preceded in death by her parents, her daughter Jonell, husband Raymond, brothers Merle, Jerome, James, and sister Jeanette Nees. She is survived by two sons Eric (Becky) of Denver, Colorado, and Michael of Coralville, three step-grandchildren, and six siblings: Virgil Baumhover, Betty (Jerry) Klocke, Lenore (Richard) Fiedler, Anita (Francis) Fiedler, Lorin (Lorraine) Baumhover, and Roger Baumhover. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, gardening, and making sure everyone was fed and felt comfortable. Throughout her entire life her Catholic faith sustained her and she was a member of the Third Order of Franciscans. Most recently she was a member of St. Lawrence Parish in Carroll.
