Stanley was born and raised in the heart of farm country on June 11th, 1932, to Walter and Marina (Eike) Schroeder. Stanley spent his entire life working the soil. Being a farmer wasn’t just his job, it was his identity. You could find him driving by his fields or sitting on his patio overlooking his crop. Even in retirement, he found joy and pride in soaking in the view and the quiet satisfaction of a job well done.
Stanley was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend. He was a man of unique style, often turning heads with his signature look: a “space suit” paired with cowboy boots and a flat-billed cap. Stanley could strike up a conversation with anyone, anywhere, stopping in the middle of the street while cruising around Arcadia in his trusty white “TipTop” pickup or chatting with folks over a bucket of Kentucky Fried Chicken or fish from Long John Silver’s. Always curious, he was full of questions for adults and teased children with his “Hi Susie!” line.
He married Margaret Wanninger on April 19, 1960, and together they raised three children: Tamie, Julie, and Danny. Together they worked the farm, raised their children, and watched their three grandchildren grow. Their life together was full of shared laughter, love, and lively debates, especially when it came to doing things the “right way”, a topic Stanley had no shortage of opinions on. When Thanksgiving came around, he had just one request: don’t forget to put raisins in the stuffing!
Over the years, Stanley enjoyed hunting prairie dogs in South Dakota, discussing guns, vehicles, and green tractors, having a beer or two in Maple River with friends, watching Westerns and baseball games, and eating liver and onions with JoJo and Tom. Stanley took particular joy in being a “supervisor” to his sons-in-law as they tackled household chores offering guidance (solicited or not) to ensure the job was done his way.
Stanley was preceded in death by his parents, siblings, wife Margaret, son Danny, grandson Daniel Davey, and son-in-law Gene Liechti.
He is survived by his daughters Tamie (John) Davey and Julie Liechti, his grandchildren Samuel Davey and Nicole Liechti, brother-in-law Larry Cavanaugh, and family and friends who will carry his memory with love.
Stanley was a one-of-a-kind man. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered always for his heart, stories, and stubborn charm.
